Review meal courtesy of Byron Hamburgers Kensington but all photos and opinions in this post are honest and my own.
It was only recently that I had been speaking about Byron, saying that it was my favourite burger joint and telling anyone that hadn’t visited yet that it’s a must. So when an invite to review their new burger(s) landed in my inbox I felt like it was meant to be.
So we popped along to their flagship branch on Kensington High Street, the original Byron Hamburgers, to try the relaunched B-Rex burger and family.
For some background, the B-Rex first launched five years ago in 2014 and it was one of the most popular burger specials ever released by Byron. However it came off the menu to make way for new additions, and burger fans were not happy! So now this favourite is back by popular demand. After trying it for the first time ahead of the launch I can totally see why people weren’t happy. It is INSANE.
It was described to us as ‘everything good about a burger put together’ and I can’t describe it better myself! The B-Rex is a classic hamburger patty topped with an onion ring, crispy smoked bacon and American cheese with Jalapeños, sliced pickles, onion, BBQ sauce and mayo. It was the perfect. The tastiest burger I have had. It’s one of those burgers that will drip sauce all over your hands, lap, and down your elbows but it is so worth it and you’ll be so in awe you won’t even notice.
This was all washed down with Byron lager. An absolute favourite of mine and a must-try if you are a lager drinker.
Karl decided to go for the chicken version of the B-Rex – the Cluck-osaurus Rex, or C-Rex (which he enjoyed as much as me and I was pleased after I kept insisting that Byron was one of the best around)
Vegetarians won’t miss out as there’s also a veggie version, the Veggie-saurus Rex, or V-Rex (with bean patty, hold the bacon).
We also feasted on Nachos which came served smothered in a delicious helping of cheddar, smashed avocado, fresh salsa, sour cream, red chillies, jalapeños, and coriander, as well as Stacked fries which are fries covered with pulled BBQ beef brisket, smoked chilli BBQ sauce, spring onions, crispy onions, green chillies, red pepper ketchup, and Byron Cheese sauce.
But the indulging did not end there. We were also treated to our own mini freak shake masterclass where Karl made an amazing freak shake. Very impressive for a first try!? Mine didn’t look as appetising so didn’t get it’s own photo shoot.
Karl’s masterpiece was salted caramel shake with salted caramel and chocolate sauce topped with cream and a slice of Oreo cheesecake. You can actually order your own Oreo cheesecake freak shake from Byron which is vanilla & chocolate milkshake with malt, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, a slice of Oreo cheesecake, and a Oreo ice cream sandwich.
We had such a wonderful time at Byron Kensington. It was great to meet the Kensington team and see how proud they are about the restaurant and the new additions on the menu. Their passion really showed and it was truly wonderful to see.
Byron is definitely a restaurant I can see myself returning to time and time again.
Will you be trying the B-Rex, C-Rex or V-Rex burgers?
