Champagne Stories – for that sophisticated shopping break in the heart of Oxford Street.
Any time is a good time for a glass of the bubbly stuff but even better on a Monday. To start our week with a bang, literally, we popped by Champagne Stories.
Champagne Stories is the new champagne bar at the John Lewis flagship store on Oxford Street, London. The bar is located on the first floor towards the front of the store.
There’s nothing better than stopping by a Champagne bar after a long day of shopping (or a long Monday in the office like us). What I loved about Champagne Stories is that guests can choose to sit at a table or on stalls at the bar. A lot of Champagne bars I’ve visited only have the bar seats, which I don’t find as comfortable or as relaxing. But at Champagne Stories we could kick back and relax whilst looking at the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street.
I didn’t hesitate in ordering myself a glass of Champagne. I was impressed at the £9.95 price tag, which is SO reasonable for a glass of the good stuff in a Champagne bar in the heart of London.
Champagne Stories also serves wine, prosecco, skinny prosecco and champagne, and cocktails. Each of their cocktails are named after luxury designer brands in John Lewis adding to the opulence of the bar. My guest went for the Christian Louboutin. Louboutin’s personal style, candy-coloured stilettos and love of Egyptian culture was the inspiration behind this cocktail which features strawberry and passion fruit flavours.
Luigi was on hand at Champagne Stories to talk us through the cocktail menu, to make sure that there wasn’t a dry glass in the house and to make our time fun and enjoyable.
Champagne Stories is a luxurious and opulent venue, it’s tastefully decorated with baby pink walls and delicate mirror and gold features, and comfortably upholstered with coffee coloured leather banquette seating. I loved the sophisticated but relaxed vibe about the place, it’s definitely somewhere I would like to stop by whilst shopping knowing that I won’t be breaking the bank.
Unfortunately we decided to go at 7pm and hadn’t checked to see that John Lewis shuts at 8pm (except for 9pm on Thursdays) which means last orders for drinks is 7.30pm. This meant we didn’t get to spend as long there as we had planned so we didn’t get a chance to sample their culinary offerings.
The dishes on offer are created by chef Lizzie King who is renowned for her lifestyle and food blog, Lizzie Loves Healthy, as well as her recently published cookbook debuting her collection of healthy living recipes. Lizzie has created a bespoke menu available exclusively for Champagne Stories. Each of her dishes is crafted to be enjoyed with a glass of bubbles in hand.
But we did have time for a couple of drinks each though…
After a lovely glass of fizz I had to try a cocktail. I went for the Fendi ,which is similar to a Pornstar Martini, which came complete with a shot of prosecco. This vodka based cocktail is inspired by the gold tone of Fendi sunglasses. I adored the bright pink almost neon shade of the Christian Louboutin cocktail – look how stunning it is!?
All of the drinks were absolutely beautiful and full of flavour and I loved the detailing for each cocktail which explained the reason for its name and the inspiration. However I would have found it helpful if it had explained which ingredients each cocktail featured but thankfully Luigi was on hand for this.
As we left we were able to sample one of the sweet treats on offer. I particularly enjoyed the pistachio and rose water cake, so moist and bursting with flavour – plus look how pretty it looks!
