I may have found my new favourite place.
I’m in love! I can’t stop raving about this wonderful restaurant that is Dirty Bones. Luckily for me it’s only a few doors down from my office in Kensington Church Street.
I have stopped by Dirty Bones before and was blown away by their Dirty Fries but this visit was something else because of three words: Mac Daddy Burger. But I’ll get to that.
Entering the little doorway and heading down the red stairs, this place just oozes cool (even the bathrooms are totally stylish!) and at 6.30pm on a Tuesday night it was absolutely buzzing. The basement cocktail bar and restaurant is dimly lit with a ‘dive bar’ style too it. I felt like I had suddenly transported to Shoreditch, Dirty Bones is shabby but chic. Finally Kensington has a little touch of East London in it and I think it’s just what Kensington Church Street needed.
We started the evening off with cocktails of course and between 5-7pm it’s happy hour. This definitely means that I will be back for office drinks and from now on, whoever I meet after work, I’m taking you here! Forget Nandos or Starbucks – Dirty Bones is the one.
I went for the Pre Dog cocktail – Lexy – which I don’t think was in the Happy Hour deal as I only got one cocktail unlike Karl who received two. Major drink envy.
We were lucky enough to visit just after the launch of their new menu which is incredible.
Although unusual I chose the lime and chilli popcorn to
start at a very affordable £2. I’m loving this flavoured popcorn trend at the moment and this was different to anything I had tried before and the perfect snack to start the meal with. Karl and I shared these with Charred Padron Peppers which I could not get enough of.
It’s great to find a healthy snack which is so moreish – I really need to make
these at home!
I had been looking at the menu for a few days before
our visit and drooling over the description of the Mac Daddy burger. I’m not a huge
burger fan but every now and then I have this burger craving but I always seem
to be disappointed with what I order. This however was not the case. I
think the Mac Daddy is the best burger I have ever tasted and I will be going
back for that juicy patty and Pulled Beef Short Rib – so delish. I’m a huge Mac N Cheese
fan so anything covered in it is a must have for me. Therefore I was delighted
when Karl ordered the pulled pork Mac N Cheese. A cute dinky bowl but incredibly filling, we were stuffed.
For my side I ordered the Dirty Fries. I have been singing their praises to Karl and thankfully they lived up to expectations and were as delicious as ever, possibly even tastier. The Dirty Fries are tripled cooked fries smothered in chilli cheese sauce, Dirty Bones BBQ sauce and Cactus salsa – even the description is enough to make your mouth water!
I’m a peanut butter fanatic. If my friends and family spot some new chocolate or sweet which is peanut butter flavoured they’ll get it and if there is something with peanut butter in it on the menu, I can promise you I’ll order it. My eyes lit up when I saw Dirty Bones has a Peanut Butter Cookie Cup dessert (pictured below).
It was beautiful. It was perfect, the ice cream had a gorgeous nutty taste without being too overpowering and it paired so well with the chocolate cookie topping.
Although the restaurant’s doorway may seem pretty bright and inviting (don’t get me wrong, it really is) it can be easily missed which makes Dirty Bones such a hidden gem. I actually walked past it a few times before I realised it was there.
I’ve already made plans to bring three different groups of friends to show off my new ‘local’. I don’t think I can say it enough but go go go go!

*As with the majority of reviews which appear on Studded Kisses we were kindly hosted by Dirty Bones for the night. All views are my own and I really do believe this place really is fantastic!
