Gluten Free Eating

Eating Gluten Free seems to be a big 'trend' right now, however for some people, including many of my friends, it isn't a choice.

Although I am not gluten free myself and definitely not an expert I have noticed that since lowering my gluten intake my skin has really improved. Whilst I lived at uni I stuffed myself with cereal, bread, pasta and biscuits and it wasn't until I cut this down I really noticed how my spots began to disappear.

Since then if I eat more bread or pasta in one day I notice how my skin breaks out shortly after. Fortunately as gluten free has become so popular lately there are so many delicious options!

Karl and I had the opportunity to test out a few gluten free products. We had a bit of a tasting evening starting with Spicy Ginger cookies and Almond shortbread from Kent & Fraser. The Spicy Ginger biscuits were definitely a favourite!

Over the past few months I discovered my love for tea so the biscuits paired perfectly with my new favourite tea brand - Teapigs. We tried the Rooibos Teapigs.

The Rooibos tea is a blend of two native bushes from South Africa. Rooibos (Afrikaans for red bush) and Honey Bush grow only in the Cedarberg region of South Africa. The tea contains no caffeine and it is high in antioxidants and nutrients which is perfect for me as caffeinated drinks often leave me feeling unwell.

My mum is also in love with Teapigs and the Chai Tea and Chocolate Flakes Tea are on our foodie wish list now!

Although this is slightly off topic, I wanted to point out how perfectly the Teapigs and Kent & Fraser biscuits paired together!

Next we sampled the Lemon Slice and Country Fruit Slice from Mrs Crimble's  which were absolutely delicious. Both cakes were so rich in flavour completely defying any myth that gluten free food can be tasteless. The texture was also wonderful and fluffy, just like any ordinary cake.

I (emphasis on I) tried the new Bakewell Tart Nakd bars. There is no doubt that these are my favourite gluten free products. I previously tried the Cocoa Delight which was so delicious but the new Bakewell Tart bars are definitely a new favourite flabour. If you are a bakewell tart fan, these taste identical but are much healthier - win win!

Unfortunately for Karl, who may be reading this, may be thinking 'We had Nakd bars to try too?' Yes but sadly as they were so delicious I ate them all myself...sorry!
